Unique Marine started operating in September 2003 and is a close corporation owned by Danie van Schalkwyk.

The corporation’s facilities is situated in Pretoria, occupy an area of 4 000 square meters, and have been designed to meet the requirements of a marine sales and services facilities, etc.

The main activity areas of Unique Marine comprises the sales and services of marine equipment with a collective range of specialist skills and knowledge in the field of new & second hand boat sales, boat services & repairs, skippers training and the examination of vessels for conformance.  We cater for all your outboard power driven water sporting needs, including boats and jet-skis, new and used, accessories, a large range of water toys, spares and a specialized workshop.  Unique Marine's principle goal is to conceptualize, specify, develop, implement and support marine equipment and products for its clients.

TRACK RECORD

The staff of Unique Marine has an enviable track record in terms of marine equipment in the core focus areas of our business.  Many years of experience are represented by the current staff complement, which are as follow:

• Danie van Schalkwyk is a members of the largest deep-sea angling club (Assembly Deep Sea Angling Club) in Pretoria, for more than 8 years.  He has a broad knowledge on boats and engine repairs.  Danie is also an authorized agent for SADSAA.
• Jay Snyman is also a  member of the largest deep-sea angling club (Assembly Deep Sea Angling Club) in Pretoria, for more than 8 years.  Jay has a broad knowledge on boats and engine repairs. Jay is also an authorized agent for SADSAA.
• Piet Swanepoel representing the Skippers training section of Unique Marine.  Piet has authorized agency from both SADSAA and SAMSA (SA Maritime Safety Authority). Further is Piet a Springbok (Protea) angler with more than 25 years deep sea experience.

An added capability offered by Unique Marine staff, is the ability (certified) to train marine safety aspects as well as examine marine vessels.  The combined experience of the staff in this regard is difficult to be matched in the South African industry.

A cornerstone of the Unique Marine’s approach is the formation of an alliance with clients.  This ensures a seamless approach when offering services and support.

GENERAL MANAGEMENT

The management complement of Unique Marine staff has the proven capability to lead a project successfully from inception to final delivery and hand-over to the client.  Strong leadership and many years of experience in terms of general management, financial management and technical management reside in the management team.

The management style adhered to by Unique Marine is one of participate management, with team principles and situational leadership being cornerstones.  Leadership, rather than an autocratic approach is practised.  With all team members respecting the various roles performed by all staff, a very stimulating, productive and relaxed working environment is maintained.

A critical success factor in all Unique Marine projects and programmes is the involvement of suitable domain specialists.  As the areas within which we operate are very challenging, the continuous participation of domain specialists is very important.
